Colin McRAE:Dirt 2



Colin McRAE: DiRT 2 is actually the sequel racing game of Colin McRAE:DiRT. It was released in September 2009(game console) and December 2009(Microsoft Windows), by Codemaster.


DiRT 2,remain some elements as its predecessor, and add some additionally features.One of them is Flashback, allow players to rewind time during racing. Furthermore, improving multi-core processor utilization o the XBox360 and PC. DiRT 2 contain five racing mode which allow gamers to challenge AI bots or find opponents online.Those racing mode are:
  1. Rally:
  2. Rallycross
  3. Trailblazer
  4. Raid
  5. Landrush
In addition, there are also 3 special variants :
  1. Gatecrasher
  2. Domination
  3. Last Man Standing
DiRT 2 is able to attract everyone's pay close attention to it, not only because it is the sequel of Colin McRAE:DiRT, but also because of DiRT 2 is the first PC racing game using DirectX11 technology, and that is the reason why DiRT 2 for Microsoft Windows platform was delayed(Click here for more details).

The DirectX 11 is the latest graphic technology which arrive with Windows 7. DirectX 11 features inculde:
  • Tessellation: Implement on the GPU to calculate a smoother curved surface resulting in more graphically detailed images, including more lifelike characters in the gaming worlds.
  • Multi-Threading:The ability to scale across multi-core CPUs will enable developers to taker greater advantage of the power within multi-core CPUs. This results in faster framerates for games, while still supporting the increased visual detailing.
  • DirectCompute: Developers can utilize the power of discrete graphics cards to accelerate both gaming and non-gaming applications. This improves graphics, while also enabling players to accelerate everyday tasks, such as video editing on their Windows 7 installed PC.

The DirectX Techonlogy use on DiRT2

By using DirectX 11 Technology, improvements in the game are:

  • Improved water effects including more realistic ripples, accurate reflections, and life-like splashes and wakes, more detailed, animated crowd models to cheer on your race, and smoother, more realistically flowing flags and cloth as a result of hardware tessellation where more polygons are generating the scene without degrading game performance.
  • More accurate simulation of light and shadows as a result of Compute Shader 5.0 found in DirectX 11, allowing for complex computations without major hits on frame rates.
  • Truer depiction of high dynamic range lighting at twice the color depth of the DirectX 9 version, with special effects rendered at the full screen resolution, up to four times the resolution of the DirectX 9 version.
